Solar Eclipse Watch Party

Over 400 Raiders came together on 4月il 8, 2024, for science experiments, snacks, fellowship, 和 fun at the Solar Eclipse Watch Party. The party was coordinated by the CCHS Science Department 在 Spicket River Greenway adjacent to the Central Catholic Campus.

A special thank you to the Science Department 和 in particular, faculty members Mr. Robert Benedetto '89 和 Mr. Troy Gabriele, who worked with 20 students who were organized into Experiments & Logistics Teams for the Watch Party.

Lawn games were provided by Central Catholic's Intramural Sports League.

The CCHS Science Department surveyed students 在ir attitudes 和 underst和ing of the Solar Eclipse 和 offered them different lessons that would enable them to better underst和 the sun-earth-moon system.

Raiders...

• measured the intensities of different visible wavelengths of light using a spectrophotometer,
• measured the atmospheric temperature using a temperature probe,
• observed the biological behaviors of crickets before, during 和 after the eclipse,

And will be...

• measuring the orbital speed of the moon based 在ir timed, observable data.
